JOB DESCRIPTION

The Municipality of Princeton is seeking an enthusiastic professional to join the Recreation Department team as a Recreation Administrative Assistant. As the department’s first point of contact with the public the Recreation Administrative Assistant shall be able to successfully communicate with patrons either on the phone or in-person, manage multiple tasks, and problem solve. The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, good organizational abilities, strong computer aptitude, ability to learn new software, flexibility and initiative, and accurate attention to detail.

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Recreation, the Recreation Administrative Assistant will help with general office duties including maintaining files, receiving program fees, processing refunds and facility permits and assisting with program/event marketing. This position will also be responsible for entering purchase orders as directed. the Recreation Administrative Assistant will assist both the front office staff and the programming staff with a variety of duties as described above. Programming may include but is not limited to youth day camp, adult fitness, adaptive programs, aquatic programs, and youth enrichment activities. The Recreation Administrative Assistant may at times have the responsibility of hiring, training, and supervising seasonal staff including pool customer service. This position will assist with marketing of programs through email, website, flyers, and social media. General office duties may include answering phone, emails, and walk-in inquiries, maintaining files, receiving program fees and processing refunds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED

  • Provide customer service to residents, customers, contractors, and other visitors to the Recreation office and/or by phone

ASSISTANT POOL MANAGER

LEONIA RECREATION COMMISSION

The Assistant Pool Manager, under the supervision of the Pool Manager, assists with

the operation and management of the Leonia Swim Club and assumes the duties of

the Pool Manager in their absence. Responsibilities include the upkeep and

maintenance of the entire pool facility. This includes: filtration system, pool grounds,

bathhouses, first aid room, front gate, and pool office. The assistant manager shall be

familiar with procedures for the successful operation of the pool, the cohesiveness of

the staff, the excellence of the swim lesson program, the competitive swim team, and

the safety and enjoyment of the pool patrons.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be certified in Lifeguard Training or Certified Pool Operator, CPR, First Aid,

and if not CPO certified must have one advanced certification. This may include:

Lifeguard Trainer, EMT, WSI Instructor, and/or First Aid Instructor. The assistant

manager should have experience as a lifeguard, a high school diploma or its

equivalent, and preferably some further education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist the manager in organizing and operating the Swim Lesson Program.

2. Coordinate job assignments to staff and supervise record keeping.

3. Assist with the weekly scheduling of staff hours.

4. Operate and maintain the water filtration system and chlorinating.

5. Inspect the pool facilities daily and maintain a safe, efficient pool

environment.

6. Assign maintenance duties to staff members.

7. Assist the manager in the enforcement of pool rules and policies.

8. Take daily pH and chlorine readings.

9. Assist in the training of staff members and orchestrate regular training

sessions throughout the pool season.

10. Assist in the planning and supervision of special events programs.

11. Does related work as required.

SALARY

Dependent upon experience and qualifications.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

All full-time staff will be required to work a 40-hour work week on the first day of

full-time hours, June 24th through Labor Day. Salaried employees will be expected

to perform duties both pre and post-season. The work week is inclusive of “late

shifts” (1 pm-9 pm), weekends, and Monday through Sunday. Vacations may not

exceed one week during the season.

The Town of Preston is located in New London County in the southeastern region of Connecticut. Qualifications:

The qualifications required would generally be a Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education or a related area. RECREATION LEADER

RECREATION PROGRAM SPECIALIST

Morris County Park Commission

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm (or as assigned); weekend and holidays will be needed base on various program and facility schedules.

 The Morris County Park Commission is looking for an individual to preform a wide range of duties for recreation programs and facilities.  In addition to processing reservations and assisting with department programs a primary focus for this position will be the operation of a aquatic lake facility that offers swimming and paddle boating

Essential Functions:

·        Trains MCPC seasonal recreation staff on an ongoing basis in First Aid, CPR, and AED programs, monitoring and addressing recertification requirements.

·        Trains the MCPC seasonal lake staff on an ongoing basis in water safety and lifeguarding while monitoring that the staff maintains the proper certifications.

·        Assists in the coordination and the operation of the Lake Recreation Areas. Duties include supervision of seasonal staff, evaluating, picking up/processing paperwork, delivering supplies, and filling in for staff as needed.

·        Assist with annual budget preparation for the lake areas; order supplies, uniforms, and equipment as needed, monitor program expenditures.

·        Assists in the coordination and the operation of the Recreation Areas within the Division’s responsibility. Duties include supervision of seasonal staff, scheduling, filling in when necessary, picking up and processing paperwork, and delivering supplies.

·        Prepares analytical reports and correspondence related to Park Commission recreational programs and activities.

·        Coordinates schedule of various sports use requests, including soccer, softball, kickball, disc golf, lacrosse, volleyball, cross-country and mountain biking, working with other park staff and group representatives from application process through completion.

·        Assists in the cash handling and revenue control processing.

The Township of Moorestown, Burlington County, is seeking an experienced, innovative individual to serve as the Director of Recreation.  This position reports directly to the Township Manager and is responsible for promoting, implementing, coordinating and supervising the daily activities of the Moorestown Recreation department.  Activities include but are not limited to organizing special events, camps, and classes, as well as scheduling and overseeing facility usage at municipal parks and sports fields.  The successful candidate must: have the ability to collaborate and interact with parents, children, program participants, instructors, coaches, youth associations, community organizations and civic groups regarding program activities and events; maintain and manage the departmental budget, including capital projects and long range planning efforts; be proficient in grant writing and in seeking governmental and private grants to support recreation programs; stay abreast of industry trends and best practices; manage personnel scheduling, interviewing, hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, terminations and annual reviews;  work with the Department of Public Works, vendors, sponsors and contractors on usage and maintenance of Township facilities; assure compliance and awareness of proper safety procedures and guidelines; and be willing to work evenings and weekends as required.  We are seeking an energetic and organized individual focused on quality and high customer service with strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task.  NJ State Certification as a Recreation Administrator and/or National Certification Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP), college degree in recreation and Park Mgt. or related field required and 5 years of supervisory experience in municipal recreational management preferred.

SWIM POOL ASSISTANT MANAGER

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This is a seasonal supervisory position within the Township of Morris Parks and Recreation Department.  The Assistant Pool Manager has overall responsibility to assist the Pool Manager and be lead manager when the Pool Manager is not on duty with the safety of the pool, as well as managerial/ administrative, facility, aquatic, communication, and leadership duties, including:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • ·       Instill attention to safety among lifeguards, as well as pool members and guests
  • ·       Must have good verbal communication skills, show initiative and enthusiasm.  Must be able to motivate employees.
  • ·       Assist with recruitment and training of lifeguard staff
  • ·       Assist staff training in operations and safety procedures; implements procedures and standards
  • ·       Assist in scheduling all swim pool employees and properly recording hours. 
  • ·       Administer First Aid, CPR, and other emergency and safety procedures, as required
  • ·       Performs routine pool area maintenance as required; and ensures the cleanliness of facility, such as the pool, restroom, shower area, first aid room, and office space.
  • ·       Require all patrons to follow personal health and safety regulations as formulated by the NJ Department of Health and the Township of Morris Health Department
  • ·       Conducts pre-season and in-season training for all swim pool personnel
  • ·       Knowledge of the aquatic programs, procedures, policies, and general information
  • ·       Listens and responds to patrons’ needs for assistance or information and provides the public with general information, in person and over the phone
  • ·       Respond to patron and staff complaints and problems
  • ·       Able to communicate with guests and staff in a professional manner
  • ·       Investigates complaints and accidents and immediately informs the Pool Manager, Aquatics Coordinator and Director of Parks and Recreation
  • ·       Tests the temperature, chlorine, and PH values of the pools on an hourly basis
  • ·       Complete and/ or approved required safety checklists, logs and reports.
  • ·       Collects, counts, and records pool receipts from daily swim pool passes and swim lessons in receipt books at the end of each day.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • ·       Associates degree recommended
  • ·       Must possess a valid government issued ID and Social Security Card
  • ·       Required to submit to a background check
  • ·       Minimum of three (3) seasons of lifeguarding or three (3) years of supervisory experience 
  • ·       Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/ AED or ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire
  • ·       Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding or equivalent; desired
  • ·       CPO Certification; preferred
  • EXPECTED WORK HOURS
  • ·       Required pre-season hours for management meetings, staff training, and pool operations
  • ·       Typically, 40 hours per week in- season; 90-95 operating days
  • ·       Part-Time work arrangements may be available

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • ·       Frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, sit, and balance
  • ·       Ability to regularly use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms
  • ·       Routinely must lift, move and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • ·       Must be able to endure temperatures ranging from cool to extreme heat

RECREATION COORDINATOR

CHERRY HILL TOWNSHIP

Working with the Recreation Manager and Director, this person will primarily manage administrative tasks, scheduling, classroom set-ups and lead scripted tours. 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including publisher and power point. 
  • Possesses demonstrable verbal communications skills including verbal presentation skills or instruction skills. 
  • Possesses demonstrable written communications skills including writing and computer skills 
  • Possesses energy, excitement, and the social skills needed for working successfully with other staff members, board members, students, volunteers, and the public
  • Exhibits strong organizational and scheduling skills
  • Background and interest in history and/or historical preservation a plus

 Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Barclay Farmstead community garden program, Plant-A-Patch
  • Facilitates historic Barclay Farmstead 5th Grade School Tour program 
  • Assist Recreation Manager to coordinate and schedule classes and programs including supplies and staffing needs 
  • Manages facility rental requests and scheduling of Carmen Tilelli Community Center
  • Creates and maintains a monthly calendar of Barclay Farmstead activities
  • Serve as the Township liaison to the Friends of Barclay Farmstead and Cherry Hill Historical Commission, attending monthly meetings
  • Helps to train and oversee staff and volunteers in various duties
  • Occasional night/weekend hours (events, classes and meetings)
  • Open and close facilities
  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as requested
  • Assists with the set-up/break down of events and classes as needed
  • Assists with Recreation registration process including daily financial reporting and refunds
  • Assists with front office operations (phone calls, greeting visitors, program registration) and general administrative duties as assigned 
  • Insures that all recreation site equipment and supplies are adequate and in good condition, and makes recommendations for replacement when necessary
  • Help Recreation Manager in soliciting new companies or instructors for new programming and meeting potential new instructors

 Physical requirements

  • Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work
  • Some combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds)

 Education/Software Requirements

  • Familiarity with registration software a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Microsoft Office Suite
